Blog post #4 - Evaluation

Overall, I am not happy with my project. I had so many problems that I just became very frustrated with the software and myself for not being able to fix these problems. I feel like with a little more time that I could have produced something much better.

My final game is so very basic and simple that I am not pleased with what I have produced for this assignment. I wished to add more but within the time constraints I personally could not complete these wishes.

Throughout the project I created about 4 different games, all of which I had big problems with. One of these four I got very far through creating it but one line of code was stopping me and I was not capable of sorting it out after hours of trying.

If similar projects arise in the future I am going to do much more of my own research and learn a lot more about the software and coding in general as I feel this is one of the parts of the course I need to improve most upon.

Blog Post #3 - Design

I am very comfortable designing things in Photoshop, Flash, and a lot of other software.

Here are my designs for my game:

Alarm

C3PO (Robot)

Flame (off the ship) (animation)

R2D2 (Droid) (Controllable character)

Scene background (designed in Photoshop)

Ship

Space scene for final animation

Stormtrooper (multiple for NPC)

I am most pleased with the characters I have created. My R2D2, C3PO and Stormtrooper I feel are very good and I am very proud of them. I feel like the cartoon style of the game adds a different look to Star Wars characters and settings. I enjoyed creating them, but implementing code is where I struggled.

Blog Post #2 - Coding

I am not very good at coding at this stage. I don't enjoy it because I struggle so much with it. However, I enjoy learning about it.

I came to stand-stills very frequently when making this game. So much so that in the end I couldn't have any sound in my final game. I had planned to have the alarm make the siren sound from the Star Wars movies, but could not get it to work after days of trying.

I also got stuck with the scene changing. I wanted an object that when that character was on top of it, the scene would go to the next one. I managed in the end to complete this but was, again, stuck on this for a few days.

Blog Post #1 - Research and Plan

I really wanted to do a game that involved quite a lot of interaction. However, I am not the best at coding at all. I am still a novice with coding so struggled to create something above a simple game.

I decided that I wanted to do a story from something I was familiar with. I chose to do a Star Wars game. I know Star Wars well and so could create a little side-plot that could be interactive. I chose to have the player control R2D2 and escape with C3PO from an Imperial Star Destroyer.

One thing I think that I am quite skilled at it Photoshop so I created cartoonised characters and sets. I was happier with this than my final game.
